A low-pressure area is marked over North Bangladesh and adjoining West Bengal, supported by cyclonic circulation, seen till mid-levels.  This system has been meandering over parts of Bangladesh and Gangetic West Bengal for the last 3 days. It is likely to remain parked over the same region for the next about 36-48 hours. Thereafter, it is likely to vacate and move across the central region and go past the westernmost state of Gujarat by mid-week next.

Weather activity will remain confined to West Bengal, parts of Bihar and Bangladesh for the next 48 hours. Later, the low pressure will run a marathon, right from the eastern parts of the country to the westernmost state of Gujarat, between 23rd and 28th August. The beauty of the system lies in the fact that it will retain its strength, covering a large distance between Bihar & Jharkhand to Gujarat & Rajasthan.

Significant weather activity with widespread rain and thundershowers will start on 23rd August from Chhattisgarh and East Madhya Pradesh. Moving further westward, the system will have a staggered cover across Madhya Pradesh, North Madhya Maharashtra, South Rajasthan and Gujarat. On the 24th and 25th of August, severe weather activity will cover the state of Madhya Pradesh, northern regions of Maharashtra and Southeast Rajasthan. On 26th August, along with Madhya Pradesh and Rajasthan, the weather activity will extend to Gujarat, more severely over the interiors of North and Central Gujarat. The following two days, Saurashtra and Kutch will be hit hard on the 27th and 28th of August. The next day, the weather system will slip away to the Northeast Arabian Sea and weaken substantially over the ocean itself. As the model's accuracy decreases after 4-5 days, the weather system will be under observation to provide updates.
