Southwest Monsoon has been more than kind to the eastern part of the country during the month of August. Multiple weather systems developed in the Bay giving heavy to very heavy rains over many states lying in East India.
These Monsoon systems linger over the states of East India for around two to three days. During this period, the region gets pounded by heavy rains. Previously, a Monsoon system which went on to intensify into a well-marked low pressure area gave good rains over the region.
Just about 48 hours ago, another Monsoon system in the form of a cyclonic circulation developed in the Northeast Bay of Bengal. At present, the system is hovering over Bangladesh and adjoining West Bengal as a low pressure area.
This Monsoon system has already begun to give rains over many parts of West Bengal. In fact, during the last 21 hours, the capital city of the state has received a good 59 mm of rainfall.
Now, as the system is expected to intensify further and move towards East India, many states in the region are expected to receive moderate to heavy Monsoon rains. States including Odisha, West Bengal, and Jharkhand are expected to receive good rains during this period.
Monsoon rains will be more in intensity over coastal parts of Odisha and Gangetic West Bengal in the beginning. However, as the system moves closer, rains will increase over other parts of East India as well.
