The state of Odisha and Chhattisgarh have experienced light to moderate rains during the last 24 hours. In fact, pockets of North Odisha have recorded heavy rains at isolated places.

In the last 24 hours, from 8:30 am on Saturday, Keonjhargarh has recorded 66.5 mm of rainfall, followed by Koraput 29.4 mm, Ambikapur 11.7 mm, Sambalpur 10.6 mm and Pendra Road 8.4 mm of rainfall.

These weather conditions were a result of the axis of Monsoon Trough lying in the close vicinity of northern parts in both the states. Also, a Low-Pressure Area is present over the northern parts of Odisha and adjoining Jharkhand.

This system is moving west/northwestwards across North Odisha and Chhattisgarh. These systems will bring in moderate rain and thundershower activities in many parts of both the states during the next 48 hours.

Moreover, there are chances of heavy rains in the isolated places of South Chhattisgarh and Odisha. Places like Jagdalpur, Narayanpur, Malkangiri, and Nabarangpur may experience heavy Monsoon showers for the next two days.

From an agriculture point of view, these rains would be very useful for all types of crops.

The state of Odisha until July 27, was running rain deficient by 26%, while Chhattisgarh by 22%. As back to back systems are forming and traveling across the states, thus leading to frequent rains, we surely expect the rainfall statistics to improve.
