Low pressure area that formed over the Bay of Bengal on 19thSeptember was positioned over Odisha on 20thSeptember. It moved further northwest and is now lying over South Jharkhand and neighborhood.  Cyclonic circulation of the system extends up to middle layers of atmosphere. Broad circulation of the low pressure area is covering Jharkhand, Bihar, Odisha, West Bengal and Chhattisgarh.  Monsoon is likely to be active over these parts for the next 3-4 days.

Unlike the previous low pressure area, this system is not likely to travel deep west over Gujarat and Maharashtra. However, the east - west shear zone of this low pressure will set off decent monsoon showers across Madhya Pradesh, Maharashtra and East Uttar Pradesh.  Moderate showers may also reach parts of Gujarat and South Rajasthan.

Low pressure area will more or less meander over eastern parts with a slight northward shift over the next 3-4 days.  The cyclonic circulation of the low pressure will remain in the close proximity of North Bihar, adjacent to the foothill, between 22nd and 24thSeptember.  Fairly widespread rain and thundershowers are expected over Jharkhand, Bihar, West Bengal and Chhattisgarh on 21stSeptember. However, on subsequent 3 days, the intense rainfall belt will shift to Bihar, Sub Himalayan West Bengal and Sikkim. Heavy to very heavy rainfall is likely over East Bihar and foothills covering Sitamarhi, Madhepura, Supaul, Forbesganj, Kishanganj, Araria, Purnea, Bhagalpur and Katihar.  Moderate rains are expected over rest of the state.  Strong monsoon activity is likely over Sikkim and Sub Himalayan West Bengal covering Gangtok, Namchi, Mangan, Gezing, Lachen, Darjeeling, Kalimpong, Kurseong, Jalpaiguri, Siliguri, Cooch Bihar, Alipurduar and Hasimara.

Heavy thunderstorm and lightning strikes are likely over these areas during this period. It may lead to obstruction of connectivity and landslides across the mountainous terrain. Substantial improvement in the weather conditions are likely from 25thSeptember onwards and will last till the end of the month.
