Under the influence of cyclonic circulation, low-pressure area formed over Odisha and adjoining West Bengal and Jharkhand. The weather system has now moved to Chhattisgarh and neighbouring parts of East Madhya Pradesh. Low pressure will move further northwest to reach West Madhya Pradesh and bordering parts of Maharashtra, Rajasthan and the Bundelkhand region of Madhya Pradesh. The system will have a swath covering large parts of Central India, extending up to Rajasthan. Heavy to very heavy rains are expected over the next 3 days for these parts in a staggered manner.
Northern and central parts of Chhattisgarh will receive fairly widespread rain and thundershowers. Ambikapur, Bilaspur, Durg, Raipur, Pendra and Rajnadagaon will be the preferred locations. Moving westward, eastern parts of Madhya Pradesh covering Sidhi, Panna, Shahdol, Umaria, Mandla, Seoni, Jabalpur, Riwa and Sagar will also witness sharp and intense thunderstorms. While the weather system reaches West Madhya Pradesh tomorrow, a fresh stream of moisture incursion from the Arabian Sea will feed the system. Intense weather activity with heavy to very heavy monsoon bursts is expected over Southwest Madhya Pradesh. The peripherals of low pressure will impact Maharashtra on the left flank and the Bundelkhand region on the starboard side. The forward section will affect parts of East Rajasthan, more so, the southeastern parts.
Indore, Ujjain, Dhar, Ratlam, Khandwa, Khargone, Dewas, Shajapur, Bhopal on the western side and Guna, Gwalior, Shivpuri, Sheopur and Ashok Nagar on the northern side will be at risk of having vigorous monsoon activity. Parts of Vidarbha, Marathwada and adjoining Madhya Maharashtra will also receive severe thunderstorms and strong winds, more so on 18th July. Akola, Amravati, Washim, Buldhana, Jalna, Parbhani, Aurangabad, Jalgaon and Ahmednagar will become the soft targets for intense weather activity. These parts will have a short breather on the 20th and 21st July (except East Rajasthan). A fresh spell will follow because of another weather system emerging over the Bay of Bengal.
