During the Southwest Monsoon season, several weather systems come up in the Bay of Bengal. These weather systems are responsible for giving good rains over several parts of the country. Depending on its strength and movement, different areas receive rains of varied intensity.

During the month of August back to back Monsoon systems in the Bay have given heavy to very heavy rains over East as well as Central India. However, these systems failed to give any rains over the Peninsular India region. In fact, the area has received very little rains during the past few days.

About two days ago, a fresh Monsoon system had developed in the Bay of Bengal in the form of a cyclonic circulation. The weather system intensified into a low pressure area. At present, the low is lying over west-central Bay of Bengal off the Andhra Pradesh coast.

The Monsoon system has been feeding moisture to the interiors of Peninsular India due to its close proximity with the region. The interiors of Peninsular India has been receiving light to moderate rains. Moderate to heavy rains have already been occurring over the East Coast, particularly Andhra Pradesh.

Now, during the next 24 to 48 hours, rainfall intensity is expected to increase over Interior Peninsular India including parts of Telangana, Karnataka, as well as Tamil Nadu. These rains are expected to bring down the rainfall deficiencies of the respective regions.
