However, tables are likely to turn now as rains are anticipated to again show up in Kolkata by the evening of October 18. Weathermen expect this spell of rain to continue for at least one week till October 23-24.

The reason for these upcoming on and off rains will be the low pressure area over west-central Bay of Bengal, which is most likely to intensify into a depression. This weather system is likely to move in northwest direction towards North Andhra Pradesh and Odisha Coast.

With this northward movement of the system, humid winds will start blowing over the region.  This will result in development of thunderclouds over Gangetic West Bengal including state capital Kolkata.

The intensity of rains may increase by October 20-21 and during this period, one or two spells of heavy thundershowers may occur over Kolkata. As the system will dissipate by October 24, the weather will again go dry, with clear sky.

With these rains in offing, day maximums that are currently around 35-36 degrees will drop and settle near 32-33 degrees resulting in comfortable weather.
