Low pressure area in Bay moves inland, more rains in Central and East India

Monsoon in IndiaThe low pressure area in Northwest Bay of Bengal has finally moved inland and is now marked over Coastal Odisha and adjoining Gangetic West Bengal.

The system has already given fairly widespread rain over both the regions during the last couple of days. In span of last 24 hours from 8:30 am on Wednesday, Sambalpur recorded 240.3 mm of rain, Angul 111.6 mm, Cuttack 53.8 mm, Bhubaneswar 44 mm, Digha 17.2 mm, and Kolkata 10 mm.

According to Skymet Weather, the system will continue to give moderate to heavy showers over most parts of both the regions. Few parts can also record very heavy Monsoon rains as well.

Besides this, rain belt with further increase its spread and intensity of rains will also increase over parts of Jharkhand and Chhattisgarh during the next 24 hours.

Thereafter, the system will move further westwards and start giving rains over East Madhya Pradesh and Vidarbha region of Maharashtra.

At present, Odisha is witnessing rain deficiency of 16%, followed by Jharkhand at 19%, Gangetic West Bengal 6% and Chhattisgarh 3%, respectively. However, with the fresh spell of rain in offing, we expect all these states to cover up the deficiency.
