Mumbai is all set to witness untimely rains during the next 48 hours. All thanks to the low pressure area prevailing over Southwest and adjoining Southeast Arabian Sea.
We can also expect some change in weather in Mumbai tonight itself and city might see some traces of rains during late night. However, chances of rain in Mumbai are bright on Christmas day i.e December 25. Rains would reduce by Thursday, but some rains are still a chance.
Intensity of rains would be light and patchy in nature and any spell of heavy rains is completely ruled out. It may not be intense spell but would be instrumental in bringing some relief from the ongoing hot and humid afternoons.
According to Skymet Weather, the low pressure area, though far away from the coast, but is governing the wind pattern reaching till the coastline. This is infusing moist southerly winds to the Indian coastline, right from Karnataka to Konkan & Goa coast. Good amount of clouding is associated with the system but that is confined to the sea. However, it would instrumental in bringing light rains over the coastal areas.
Along with the low pressure area, there are other weather systems also effecting the weather over Maharashtra. An anti-cyclone is seen over Vidarbha and adjoining Chhattisgarh, which is also pushing humid southeasterly winds over the state including Mumbai.
A feeble cyclonic circulation is also marked over Southwest Madhya Pradesh. With series of systems prevailing around Maharashtra, we can expect a convergence zone to form over the state, bringing rains.
Mumbai remains absolutely dry after the retrieval of the Southwest Monsoon. It is only when any weather system travels up to Maharashtra or form in Arabian Sea that impacts the wind pattern. However, this December has seen some rains. The initial week of December had seen Mumbai recording 1 mm of rains, with which it had surpassed the monthly average rainfall that stands at mere 0.2 mm for the month. Any further rains would be an add-on for the city.
