The month of August began on a dry note for Lucknow. However, the city did begin to receive scattered rains since the second day of the month. Thereafter, weather conditions became dry over Lucknow and rains resumed on August 7.

Since then, the city has been witnessing light to moderate rains on several days but heavy rains were nowhere to be seen over the capital city of Uttar Pradesh. However, rain gods have bestowed their kindness over Lucknow and heavy rains have been recorded during the last 24 hours.

During the last 24 hours from 8:30 am on Sunday, Lucknow recorded a whopping 91.3 mm of rainfall. Minimum temperatures have also taken a dip and are currently settling at 23.2 degrees.

These rains can be attributed to the low pressure area which is currently over Southeast Uttar Pradesh and adjoining areas. The axis of the Monsoon trough is running in close proximity of the capital city.

The weather system is expected to persist and Lucknow is expected to receive more rains during the next 24 hours. In fact, the possibility of heavy rains during this period cannot be ruled out.

So far, Lucknow has recorded 138.5 mm of rains. The district as a whole is witnessing a rainfall deficiency of 22 percent. However, these rains may improve the deficit figures to some extent.
