The state of Andhra Pradesh has been receiving good Monsoon rains for the past few days. While the month of August wasn’t too good for the state, Monsoon has picked up pace as we move towards the end of August.
During the beginning of the month, several Monsoon systems had come up in the Bay of Bengal but most of them formed in the North Bay of Bengal only affecting the weather of East India, giving heavy rains over coastal parts of West Bengal and Odisha.
The current weather system formed in the west-central Bay of Bengal in the form of a cyclonic circulation. Gradually, the Monsoon system intensified into a low pressure area. At present, the system is stationed at west-central Bay off the Andhra Pradesh coast.
Light to moderate rains have occurred over the state. During the last 21 hours from 8:30 am on Sunday, Kalingapatnam recorded a good 15 mm of rain, Visakhapatnam 6 mm, and Ongole 4 mm. Good rains are expected to continue along the coastline of Andhra Pradesh during the next 24 hours.
In fact, the interiors of Andhra Pradesh will also receive some rains during the next 24 to 48 hours as the weather system is expected to move inland. Along with this, areas including Telangana, interior parts of Maharashtra as well as Karnataka will also receive some rains during this period.
