Low Pressure Area Forms Over Bay Of Bengal, Heavy Rains For Tamil Nadu And Andhra Pradesh

November 9, 2022 7:53 PM |

Under the influence of a cyclonic circulation, parked over Southwest Bay of Bengal (BoB), for over 24hours, a low pressure area has formed over that region. Weather system, currently located off  Tamil Nadu coast is expected to strengthen and move westward, closer to North Sri Lanka and South Tamil Nadu coast in the next 24hr.

Low pressure is likely to be in the close proximity of Indian Coastline and Gulf of Mannar by day after, on 11th Nov.  The cyclonic circulation of the system will extend up to mid levels of atmosphere and strengthen the flow of rain bearing northeasterlies across South BoB. Low pressure will trigger fresh spell of rain and thundershowers accompanied with lightning and squally winds along and off the coast, commencing Friday morning.
Fairly widespread heavy rains are likely over the 5 sub-divisions of northeast monsoon.

Weather activity will be more fierce for Tamil Nadu and South Coastal Andhra Pradesh between 11th and 13th November, with a peak on 11th Nov itself. Chennai, Pondicherry, Karaikal, Tondi, Cuddalore, Kavali, Nellore and Ongole will be at risk of localised flooding, disrupting connectivity.
Rains will travel to Rayalaseema and South Interior Karnataka as well, albeit with lesser spread and intensity.

The state of Kerala can also expect mostly moderate and few heavy showers on 12th and 13th Nov. The weather system is likely to cross over to the Arabian Sea on 14th Nov, ending its fury over most parts, subsequently.
