Low pressure area formed over Arabian Sea

December 10, 2023 7:48 AM | Skymet Weather Team

Under the influence of this cyclonic circulation over the Southeast Arabian Sea and adjoining Maldives area, a low-pressure area has formed over the same region. This low-pressure area may not intensify into a depression as the sea surface temperatures are not very warm moreover, vertical wind shear is also moderate to strong. However, the impact of this low-pressure area will be felt over Lakshadweep and Maldives. We expect moderate rain with 1 or 2 heavy spells over Lakshadweep and Maldives during the next 24 to 48 hours.

The low-pressure area will move gradually in West direction and will pull the winds from the Bay of Bengal. This full effect will certainly activate the Northeast monsoon increasing the rain intensity over Tamil Nadu and Kerala. The low-pressure area will slowly move away from Indian mainland towards south central Arabian Sea and may degenerate in the next 3 to 4 days.
