Low Pressure Area Crosses Coast: Good Rains Over Central Parts Likely

September 21, 2022 8:43 AM |

Low pressure area over Bay of Bengal appears to have become more marked and crossed over to land. Low pressure moved northwestward across North Odisha and adjoining West Bengal coast and is now lying , over interior parts of Odisha and Chhattisgarh region. It is likely to move further northwest, cutting across Chhattisgarh to reach Eastern Madhya Pradesh in the next 24hr. Thereafter, the system will move slowly, tracking more of northward and getting positioned over North Madhya Pradesh and Southwest Uttar Pradesh.

Low pressure area has lashed most parts of Odisha with moderate to heavy rains in the past 24 hours. Peripherals of the system caused weather activity over parts of West Bengal, Jharkhand, Bihar, Chhattisgarh, Andhra Pradesh and Telangana. Its further movement will extend the weather activity to Madhya Pradesh and  flanks on either side covering Uttar Pradesh and Vidarbha.

Since the southwest monsoon is reaching close to withdrawal time in the next couple of days, from parts of Northwest India, these monsoon systems will not travel any further, beyond Madhya Pradesh. These systems will have a tendency to recurve and head for plains of East and Central Uttar Pradesh, in the close proximity of foothills. The recurved track slows down the system and they spend more time over the central and eastern parts of the country.  Over the next 4-5days, moderate rainfall at many places and heavy at few, is expected over Odisha, Chhattisgarh, Madhya Pradesh, Uttar Pradesh, Bihar and Jharkhand.
