Low night temperatures in North India to sustain till weekend

January 15, 2015 1:06 PM |

North India coldIn the last few days, the minimum temperatures in the plains of North India had been settling above normal by almost 5-6 degrees, on an average. The rise in temperature was due to clouding and rain caused by a Western Disturbance in Jammu and Kashmir. However, the temperatures have now returned to normal as the skies have cleared up.

For instance, the national capital Delhi recorded 11°C as the minimum temperature on Wednesday, which is about 4 degrees above normal. While the night temperature recorded on Thursday morning was 5.8°C, two degrees below normal and 5 degrees below Wednesday’s temperature.

Similarly, Chandigarh in Punjab saw the minimum settle at 11°C on Wednesday morning, but after rain stopped and the weather cleared, the minimum temperature dropped to record 6.2°C, a drop of almost 5 degrees from the previous day temperature.

Ambala and Hisar in Haryana also saw the night temperatures dropping after a steep rise. The night temperature in Ambala had settled at 10.8°C on Wednesday morning, while the minimum dropped to record 6.5°C on Thursday morning, which is a drop of 3 degrees from Wednesday. Hisar too saw the minimum dropping and settling at 3.7°C on Thursday morning, which is almost 7 degrees below the previous day temperature of 11°C.

According to Skymet Meteorology Division in India, the low night temperatures are going to sustain in the region for another 4-5 days as the weather during this period will largely remain clear. Day temperatures are expected to rise due to clear skies and ample sunshine.

However, there is another Western Disturbance expected to affect the region by January 20. This system is likely to sustain for 2-3 days and give rain in the plains of North India, extending up to East India. During this period the minimums will rise again, while the maximums will observe a drop.
