Long spell of rain in Central India to finally end

The spell of rain in Central India since the beginning of this month is finally going to ease out in the next 48 hours. Thereafter, maximum temperatures, which are still 3 to 5 degrees below normal, are expected to rise and reach mid-thirties bringing hot and dry weather in Central India.

Rain in Maharashtra

In the last 24 hours, Maharashtra received isolated and fairly good amounts of rain. Aurangabad received 27 mm, Yeotmal 11.8 mm, Akola 8 mm, Nagpur 7 mm and Pune 0.2 mm of rain. Maximum in Yeotmal is 5 degrees below normal at 31°C while, in Nagpur it is 4 degrees below normal at 32.3°C. The day temperatures are below normal average also in places which have not received rain like Nanded and Pamban.

The rain belt will shift from Madhya Maharashtra to Vidarbha and Marathwada by tomorrow. Chhattisgarh and Odisha will also receive some rain before going for a week long break in terms of rain and hailstorm.

Rain in Central India

Yesterday Odisha, Jharkhand and Chhattisgarh have also received some light rain. In Odisha, Titlagarh and Jharsuguda received 26 mm and 2 mm of rain respectively. In Jharkhand, Jamshedpur, Ranchi and Daltonganj received 2 mm, 2.8 mm and 3 mm of rain respectively. Bilaspur in Chhattisgarh received good showers and recorded 23.8 mm of rain. Ambikapur and Pendra also received 1.2 mm and 2.6 mm of rain, respectively.

As have been recapitulated by Skymet Meteorology Division in India, Central and some parts of South India have been receiving rain due to the confluence of moist southeasterly winds from the Bay of Bengal and southwesterly winds from the Arabian Sea.
