Long dry spell in Northern Plains, East and Central India

Northwest, Central and East India received fairly widespread rain in the last few days. Weather was comfortable and temperatures were recording 5-8°C below normal average, at many places.

Winds were mostly travelling from the east over Central India and northern plains. Most parts of Gujarat and Rajasthan were also witnessing cool weather, in view of humid southwesterly winds.

Weather in Central India and Northwest Plains

A trough running from the cyclonic circulation over Central India up to south Tamil Nadu, across Maharashtra and Karnataka, could be attributed to the widespread rain over the region. However, the system is gradually shifting towards East India, taking the rain belt away from Central and Northwest India.

Winds over Rajasthan, Gujarat, Madhya Pradesh, Maharashtra and the Northwest plains will start blowing from the northwest direction. These hot and dry winds will make the weather uncomfortable. Dry winds coupled with clear sky will lead to gradual rise in temperatures. Weekend could see maximums rise up to 40°C in parts of Gujarat, Rajasthan and Madhya Pradesh.

People in Northwest and Central India will reel under hot and sultry conditions in the coming days. A feeble Western Disturbance will affect weather in the hills of North India, but its effect will not come down to the plains. As a result, no rainfall is likely in the plains of North India and Central parts for at least next 8 to 10 days.

Weather in East India

The cyclonic circulation over Central India will shift towards Jharkhand and adjoining areas by Thursday. Rain will reduce considerably within next 48 hours in East India, but Northeast will continue to receive rain. Clouding will persist in the eastern states for another 48 hours. Consequently, temperatures in East India will not rise as sharply as in North and Central India.
