People in North India should gear up for a good spell of rain during the next few days. The hills could come in for a spell of light snow as well.

At present, a Western Disturbance is lying over North Afghanistan and adjoining Pakistan. We can also see an induced cyclonic circulation over South Rajasthan and adjoining Gujarat region. The trough from this system is extending up to southern parts of Haryana, across Rajasthan.

By tomorrow evening, the Western Disturbance combined with the induced cyclonic circulation will star affecting the Western Himalayas and the plains of North India.

Good rainfall activities are expected over North and West Rajasthan. By tomorrow night, we can expect good rainfall over North Rajasthan and adjoining areas of Punjab. However, rain and snow activities over Jammu & Kashmir and Himachal Pradesh will be less. The higher reaches of Jammu & Kashmir, including places like Pahalgam and Gulmarg, could receive light snowfall.

By March 5, the spread and intensity of rain will increase in the plains and the rain belt will cover many parts of Punjab, Haryana Delhi, West Uttar Pradesh and North Rajasthan.

Rain and snow will increase over the hilly regions over Jammu and Kashmir and Himachal Pradesh by March 6 and continue for next 24 hours. But over the plains rain and thundershowers will continue till March 9. By the 7th rainfall in the plains of Northwest India will start reducing. Weather will clear up over most parts and temperatures will come down to settle near normal levels.

Isolated hails storm cannot be ruled out as this the favorable season for such weather activities.  Thundercloud development becomes a common affair in this season and whenever the top of the cloud reaches 6 or 7 km, chances of hail storm increases.
