Likely depression over Arabian Sea to intensify rains over West Coast

November 4, 2021 8:20 AM |

A low-pressure area is persisting over Comorin area and adjoining parts. It is moving across South Kerala towards southeast Arabian Sea. After reaching Southeast Arabian Sea, it may intensify into a well-marked low and subsequently into a depression. It will move in northwest direction towards east Central Arabian Sea.

Thus, moderate to heavy rain may occur over Coastal Karnataka, Kerala, parts of a Lakshadweep, Goa as well as South Madhya Maharashtra. Intense rain activities will continue over many parts of Tamil Nadu interior Karnataka as well as over coastal Andhra Pradesh.

We do not expect this depression to intensify into a cyclone. Its impact will be felt in terms of scattered rainfall over Konkan and Goa as well as parts of Madhya Maharashtra including Mumbai and suburbs. Rain over Mumbai may be light and patchy between November 6 and 7.

A cyclonic circulation is expected to form over south Central and adjoining Southeast Bay of Bengal by November 6th. It will move towards south Tamil Nadu and Sri Lanka and may induce a low-pressure area over southwest Bay of Bengal by November 8. The combined impact of depression over Arabian sea and a low-pressure area over Bay of Bengal will continue to give intense rain activities over South Peninsula during next one week.
