With potential cyclone in Bay of Bengal, Andhra Pradesh is on alert. The deep depression in west-central Bay of Bengal is likely to intensify into a cyclonic storm by Thursday evening and is expected to cross the coast by midnight. With this, Andhra Pradesh is now gearing up for torrential rains. In fact, the state along with Odisha would bear the maximum brunt of the cyclone.

Good rain and thundershowers have already begun over the state of Andhra Pradesh. During the past 24 hours from 08:30 am on Wednesday, Kalingapatnam saw rains to the tune of 25 mm, followed by Kurnool 24 mm, Visakhapatnam 13 mm and Kakinada 7 mm.

The impact of the system has been already initiated over the state of Andhra Pradesh where moderate to heavy showers have begun. Further, we expect heavy to very heavy rains in parts of the state, particularly the coastal regions like Visakhapatnam, Kakinada and Machilipatnam. These rains would be accompanied with high-velocity winds to the tune of 70 kmph-80 kmph and lightning strikes, which can have a damaging affect.

However, Rayalaseema would not see rains of same intensity but few good spells are likely over the region till tomorrow.

Thereafter, this weather feature is likely to travel in the westerly direction and as a result, the intensity of showers will reduce significantly over Andhra Pradesh, but on and off light rains will still continue for another 24 hours.

We presume that by the end of this rainy episode, the rain deficiency of Rayalaseema may get better to some degree which at present by 34%.
