Andhra Pradesh and Odisha have been observing pre Monsoon showers of varying intensity for the past many days. Along with these showers, squally winds and lightning strikes would also accompany. In the past day also both the states recorded scattered rainfall activity.

In the last 24 hours from 8:30 am on Tuesday, Dhenkanal recorded rain to the tune of 13 mm, Cuttack 9.6 mm, Angul 3.6 mm, Pulbani 3 mm, Jharsuguda and Kalingapatnam 2.4 mm and Balasore 1.8 mm of rains. In the same time frame, Koraput, Bhubaneswar, and Chandbali witnessed traces of rain.

From the past few days, a trough is seen extending from Sub Himalayan West Bengal to Southern Peninsula across Gangetic West Bengal, Odisha, and Telangana. This trough has been oscillating east to west. Henceforth, it was responsible for scattered rain and thundershower activity over Odisha and Coastal Andhra Pradesh.

As per Skymet Weather, these pre Monsoon activities are expected to continue in isolated pockets of Odisha and Andhra Pradesh in coming days also. The intensity of rain is likely to be light and patchy in nature.

Usually, the increase in intensity and spread over the East Coast of India is when the trough is assisted by a cyclonic circulation or a low-pressure area over the Bay of Bengal. However, numerical models suggest that likelihood of such formation is less in coming days. Therefore, Odisha and Coastal Andhra Pradesh will have to content with isolated activities only.

These pre Monsoon rains occur for a short duration, therefore they fail to bring down the temperatures. The weather during the day will continue to be very warm and humid over both the states. Therefore, uneasy conditions will prevail as relief is not in sight.
