As forecast by Skymet, scattered rain has occurred over northern parts of Madhya Maharashtra. Southwesterly winds from the Arabian Sea and southeasterly winds from the Bay of Bengal have acted in tandem to give rain over the region.
In the last 24 hours from 8:30 am on Sunday, Mohadi in Nashik district has received 15 mm of rain, while Goregaon in Thane has observed 12 mm of rain. Similarly, Ghargaon in Ahmednagar district has received 9 mm of rain.
Normally during this time of the year, occurrence of rainfall in this region is rare. Sometimes rain may be observed in the third week of October only when the Southwest Monsoon is delayed.
But this time an induced cyclonic circulation has developed near Central Pakistan and adjoining Rajasthan. And a trough from this system is extending upto South Pakistan and adjoining Gujarat leading to southwesterly winds over Gujarat and North Madhya Maharashtra.
We expect this situation to prevail in the region for another 24 to 48 hours. During this period rainfall is expected over Thane, Nashik, Dhule, Nandurbar, Jalgaon and Ahmednagar. Parts of adjoining Gujarat and southwest Madhya Pradesh may also receive some rainfall activity during this period.
Though the intensity of rain will be light, the spell of rain will increase the moisture content of the soil, considered very beneficial for Rabi crops.
