Coastal parts of Maharashtra have been receiving vastly heavy Monsoon showers since last many days. In fact, several districts of Madhya Maharashtra and Marathwada region have also been receiving light to moderate rains. With this, the entire state of Maharashtra has been observing vigorous to active Monsoon conditions.
In a span of last 24 hours from 8:30 am on Thursday, Harnai recorded heaviest rainfall of 319 mm, Bhira 119 mm, Mahabaleshwar 52 mm,Ratnagiri30 mm, Alibag 28 mm,Aurangabad23 mm, Buldhana 21 mm, Jeur 20 mm,Pune12.5 mm, Gondia 12 mm, Beed and Udgir 11 mm,Jalgaon10 mm,Solapur9 mm,Chandrapurand Yeotmal 7 mm,Nagpur5 mm,Dahanu4 mm, Parbhani 3 mm, Ahmednagar,Sataraand Akola 2 mm andSangli1 mm.

These weather conditions can be attributed to a trough which is seen running from North Madhya Pradesh up to North Madhya Maharashtra region. Also, an offshore trough is seen extending from North Konkan up to Kerala.
Due to the effect of these two weather systems over Maharashtra, several places in Konkan & Goa, Madhya Maharashtra and Vidarbha will continue to witness light to moderate rains during the next 24 hours. Moreover, Marathwada region is also likely to witness light to moderate spells during the similar time period.

Cities such as Pune, Jalna, Aurangabad, Ahmednagar, Kolhapur, Nashik, Satara, Harnai, Dahanu and Mahabaleshwar will continue to witness light to moderate showers.
As per weathermen at Skymet Weather, the intensity of these good showers is expected to reduce significantly over Vidarbha region after 24 hours. Whereas several districts of Konkan & Goa, Madhya Maharashtra and a few parts of Marathwada region will continue to witness on and off light to moderate showers during the next 48 hours.
As on September 21, the sub-divisional rainfall distribution statistics show that Marathwada and Vidarbha are both rain deficient regions by 2% and and22%, respectively. Whereas Madhya Maharashtra and Konkan & Goa are rain surplus by 21% and 10%, respectively.
