In comparison with North India, the southern states of India have been witnessing good rainfall activities, lately. In fact, most places over Central and North India have been facing almost dry weather conditions. In addition to this, Monsoon rains had remained on the back seat for quite a long time over the state but now rains have once again picked up pace over Kerala.
From past few days, light to moderate rains has been occurring over Kerala. These showers have resulted in pleasant weather conditions over most parts of the state as well.
In a span of last 24 hours from 8:30 am on Friday, Kochi recorded moderate rainfall of 19.2 mm, Kozhikode 13 mm, Alappuzha 12 mm, Kottayam 7 mm, Panalur 6.5 mm, Thiruvananthapuram 6 mm and Kannur 3 mm.
The reason for these light to moderate rain and thundershower activities can be attributed to an upper air trough which is seen extending from west central Bay of Bengal up to coastal parts of Karnataka.
Moreover, due to this weather system, light to moderate showers is likely to continue in many places over Kerala for the next 24 to 36 hours as well.
