Good rains in Marathwada till this weekend

In the month of June, Marathwada received normal Monsoon rains, recording 17% rainfall below than the normal. However, in July and August, rain deficiency in the region increased at stood at 56% and 52%, respectively.

Generally speaking, Marathwada is one region which remains deficient in terms of rains, despite normal Monsoon conditions. This can be attributed to its geographical location. The weather systems which form in the Arabian Sea normally affect coastal areas of Maharashtra, Gujarat, and West Madhya Pradesh. Whereas the systems which form over the Bay of Bengal, move in the northwest direction, and affect Andhra Pradesh, Telangana, and Vidarbha.

But now, a trough has formed and it stretches from north interior Karnataka to Gulf of Mannar, across Karnataka and Tamil Nadu. This trough is expected to deepen further and is likely to reach up to Madhya Maharashtra and Marathwada region.

As a result, in next 24 to 48 hours, light scattered rainfall is expected in Marathwada. The intensity of rainfall may increase gradually. By this weekend, the region of Marathwada is expected to receive good rains and rainfall deficiency in this part of the country will decrease to some extent.

Furthermore, from the perspective of agriculture, these rains will be nothing short of a blessing for Kharif crops in the region. As already pointed out by Skymet, well-distributed rainfall has helped crops this year. Even though overall Monsoon rains settle on the lower side, rainfall in croplands will be extremely beneficial.
