During last 24 hours, widespread light to moderate rainfall has occurred over southern and western Rajasthan. Good rainfall in the region has brought down day temperatures and a cooling effect has enveloped this part of the state.
In the last 24 hours, Jaisalmer recorded 22.8 mm, Jalore 36 mm, Mount Abu 29.2 mm, Udaipur 11.4 mm, Ajmer 8.2 mm, Barmer 8.2 mm, Bikaner 10 mm, and Bundi 7 mm of rainfall.
Till date, excess rainfall has been recorded in East and West Rajasthan during this Monsoon. Only 5 meteorological divisions in India are currently recording excess rainfall. Out of these, two divisions are from West Rajasthan and two are from East Rajasthan. While West Rajasthan is observing an excess of 82%, East Rajasthan maintains an excess of 21%. The other 3 meteorological divisions which are recording excess rainfall are West Uttar Pradesh, Gangetic West Bengal, and Jammu and Kashmir.
In the month of June, West Rajasthan recorded 78% excess rainfall and East Rajasthan recorded an excess of 54%. Towards the end of July, which was a lean period for most parts of the country, West Rajasthan recorded an excess of 117% and East Rajasthan recorded an excess of 37% in terms of rainfall received. Till August, these figures changed to 82% for West Rajasthan and 21% for East Rajasthan.
Now, south and southeast Rajasthan will continue to receive good rainfall for another 48 hours. Places like Barmer, Jalore, Udaipur, Chittorgarh, and parts of Jaisalmer will receive rain. Thereafter, eastern parts of Rajasthan will receive scattered rainfall. Places like Jaipur, Sawai Madhopur, Kota, Bundi, and Tonk are expected to receive rain.
Come August 18, and most parts of Rajasthan will become dry again, as the axis of Monsoon trough is expected to shift towards the foothills. Thus significant rainfall activity over Rajasthan will recede and temperatures will begin to rise again. But this dry spell will not have an adverse effect on agriculture in the state as Rajasthan has already received plentiful rains.
