Light to moderate Chennai rains to continue

November 26, 2017 11:02 AM | Skymet Weather Team

As reiterated by Skymet Weather, only light rain and thundershower was witnessed over the city of Chennai in the past 24 hours. All thanks to the low pressure area which was over Southwest Bay of Bengal and adjoining Indian Ocean off Sri Lanka Coast. Presently, this system has moved slightly west-northwestwards closer to the landmass.

In addition to this, a trough of low extends from this system up to South Coastal parts of Andhra Pradesh across Coastal Tamil Nadu. With these active weather systems, southeasterly winds are blowing over Chennai. These winds are moist in nature, thus accumulating more moisture content over the area.

In a span of 24 hours from 08:30 am on Saturday, Meenambakkam observatory recorded rains to the tune of 5 mm, while Nungambakkam observatory witnessed a mere 4 mm.

Weathermen expect the low pressure to continue moving west-northwestwards. Therefore, the southeasterly winds will strengthen and affect the weather of Tamil Nadu capital in the form of light to moderate rain and thundershowers during the next 2 to 3 days. Henceforth, these intermittent showers will continue to influence the weather over the city.

Mostly the weather will remain humid with cloudy sky conditions across Chennai. The maximum temperatures will settle between 26°C-28°C, whereas the minimums will be near 22°C-24°C.
