Light spells in Northeast India to continue

After remaining in a deluge, parts of Northeast India, particularly, Assam and Tripura took a sigh of relief as the rain intensity over the northeastern states has reduced drastically. The flooding rains that paralyzed the region now have taken a backseat.

On Monday, flooding rains caused chaos in the state of Tripura thereby relocating thousands of residents. In fact, rains occurred in Northeast India in the last 24 hours as well. Though, the intensity of rains curtailed down.

Within the span of 24 hours from 08:30 am on Tuesday, Jorhat recorded 29 mm of rains, Dhubri 22 mm, North Lakhimpur 18 mm, Majbat 12 mm, Dibrugarh 11 mm, Cherrapunji 4 mm and Silchar witnessed light rains of 2 mm.

As per Skymet Weather, as of now also, light to moderate with isolated heavy rains are likely to continue in parts of Northeast India for another 3-4 days.

The axis of Monsoon trough is running close to the foothills of Himalayas and is reaching up to Assam via Sub-Himalayan West Bengal. Moreover, moderate winds from the Bay of Bengal is blowing over the entire northeastern states. These winds will continue to feed moisture over these states leading to fairly widespread rain. Though extremely heavy rains are not expected.

Apart from South India, only the northeastern region is witnessing rains.
