During the winter season, due to successive Western Disturbances, northeastern states manage to receive good rain and thundershowers. But so far this season, many parts of these states are reeling under the rainfall deficiency by more than 80%.
A Western Disturbance was seen moving across the Tibet region. Also, a cyclonic circulation developed over Meghalaya and adjoining areas. Thus, with the combined effect of these systems, rain was expected to occur at many places over Arunachal Pradesh, Assam and Meghalaya.
But only clouding prevailed for elongated period over the region, but only light showers were observed over most parts during last 24 hours.
In a span of 24 hours from 08:30 am on Saturday, Tawang witnessed 6 mm of rainfall, followed by Mazbat that recorded 5 mm. Likewise, Tinsukia witnessed 8 mm, Anni 2 mm, North Lakhimpur 2 mm, Dibrugarh 0.5 mm, Passighat 0.1, Itanagar 0.8 mm and Shillong 0.4 mm of rainfall.
Now, as the Western disturbance is seen moving away and the persisting cyclonic circulation has also became insignificant, rain is likely to abate from the plains; however isolated rain with light thundering will continue over the hilly terrains.
With this, we can say that rainfall deficiency will continue to prevail over northeastern states.
