Kolkata has been receiving good rains from past 2 days. During last 24 hours from 08:30 am on Monday, Kolkata had observed 22.7 mm rains.
Reason for these good showers over the city can be attributed to southeasterly winds reaching over Gangetic West Bengal leading to fairly widespread rains over most parts of the state including Kolkata.
Most districts of the state have observed moderate rains including Baharampur that recorded 26 mm rains, Diamond Harbour recorded 20.7 mm showers and Digha that witnessed 28.3 mm spells. Other regions observed light spells.
This low-pressure area may intensify into a well-marked low-pressure area. Gradually this weather system will move towards North Odisha coast.
Intensity of rain will be much more over Odisha and interior parts of the state but moderate showers are likely to continue over Kolkata and adjoining areas for next 24 hours. Thereafter, there may be slight dip in rainfall activities.
However, as per Skymet Weather, good showers may again make a comeback over the region from August 8. These rains are then most likely to continue for another two to three days.
