During the entire season of Southwest Monsoon this year, Rajasthan has been one of the rain surplus state. On the contrary, Gujarat has remained rainfall deficient during the entire season.

However, since the beginning of October, both the states have been receiving some decent rains. In fact, parts of Gujarat and Rajasthan both had witnessed some good showers yesterday as well. In the last 24 hours, few heavy spells have occurred over Gujarat and light spells were witnessed over southeast and East Rajasthan.

In a span of 24 hours from 08:30 am on Thursday, Gujarat particularly districts like Amreli, Ahmedabad and Surat recorded heavy to moderate rains of 60 mm, 20 mm and 23 mm respectively.

On the other hand, few light showers were also witnessed in various parts of the state. During the similar time frame, districts like Valsad recorded 12 mm of showers, Deesa 4 mm, Veraval 2.3 and Junagadh observed mere spells of 2 mm.

Likewise, parts of Rajasthan had also witnessed some decent rains. As per the time mentioned above, districts like Chittorgarh, Udaipur have witnessed some moderate rainfall of 40 mm and 41 mm each. However, light spells also made their appearance over Jaipur recording 1 mm of wet spells.

Moreover, yesterday’s cyclonic circulation over southeast Rajasthan remained at the same position and thus is losing its strength gradually. Also, a trough can be seen extending from this system to south of Gujarat.

In the wake of this weather system, rains over parts of both these states are expected to continue with reduced intensity. Light showers are likely to appear at a few parts over the coastal areas of Gujarat and parts of East Rajasthan.

However, 48 hours hence, dry weather is expected to loom over the area.
