After witnessing a declining trend in the rainfall, rains have increased over parts of Konkan and Madhya Maharashtra on the last day. However, the other parts of the state remained mainly dry. Meanwhile, isolated very light spells occurred over parts of Vidarbha. Marathwada remained dry.

In the last 24 hours, from 08:30 am on Thursday, Mahabaleshwar recorded 24 mm of rains, Matheran 17 mm, Alibag 6 mm, Harnai 3 mm, Pune 3 mm, Dahanu 1 mm, Mumbai Santa Cruz observed 3 mm of rains, Colaba 0.2 mm, Kolhapur 4 mm, Satara 2 mm, and Vengurla recorded 1 mm of rains.

The reduction in rains has dipped the rainfall performance of the entire state. As on August 2, Konkan division is 19% rain surplus, Vidarbha, and Madhya Maharashtra are rain surplus by 7%. On the other hand, due to continuous reduction, Marathwada is rain deficient by 11%.

As per Skymet Weather, now, also we do not expect any significant increase in the rain activity over Maharashtra. However, rains may witness a further rise over the Konkan division.

Mumbai and adjoining parts of Madhya Maharashtra may also receive scattered light showers. However, the weather of Marathwada and western parts of Vidarbha will remain dry. Meanwhile, scattered rains may make a comeback over the eastern districts of Vidarbha in places like Gondia, Brahmapuri, Chandrapur, and Bhandara.

The westerly winds from the Arabian Sea are likely to get strengthen leading to an increase in rains. After two to three days, we expect the formation of a feeble trough over Konkan region which would result in these rains.

At this stage, let us see the impact of this weather on the agriculture belt of Maharashtra:

Farmers of Konkan are advised to complete transplanting of finger millet and also to apply NPK at the time of planting. Apply FYM to Mango, Cashew, Coconut, Arecanut and other fruit crops. The weather of Marathwada and western parts of Vidarbha will remain dry hence farmers are advised to apply irrigation to all Kharif crops according to their need of evapotranspiration.

Farmers are also advised to complete the second dose of NPK, in case of pest infestation. Intercultural operations should be done for weed control. All farmers of North Madhya Maharashtra and Marathwada are mainly suggested to take proper care of irrigation and supply of water to all Kharif crops.
