Light rains to continue over Mumbai

July 30, 2017 5:56 PM |

Mumbai Rains

The Southwest Monsoon has become weak over Maharashtra. As a result, rains and thundershowers over several districts of Maharashtra have been facing subdued Monsoon rainfall activities. In fact, before July 21, Mumbai witnessed some heavy rains along with few heavy spells of three-digit rains as well. After July 21, Mumbai rains have been witnessing a downward trend. Since then, Mumbai has been only witnessing light rains.

In a span of 24 hours from 8:30 am on Saturday, the Colaba observatory recorded a mere 3 mm of rainfall and Santa Cruz observatory recorded 2 mm of rain.

These decreased rainfall activities are attributed to the weakening of the offshore trough which was responsible for giving good Monsoon rains over Mumbai before July 21. But now, the intensity of rains and thundershowers are expected to further reduce.

As per Skymet Weathermen, light to moderate rains and thundershowers are likely to continue over Mumbai during the next 24 to 48 hours. These weather conditions can be attributed to an offshore trough which is seen extending from Gujarat up to North Kerala Coast. However, the possibility of heavy rains is majorly unforeseen over the city.
