Heatwave has abated parts of Maharashtra during the last 24-48 hours. Which is why, the temperatures that were running above the 45-degree mark in most stations of Vidarbha, came down to settle below the 45 degrees Celsius mark.
Though light rains were observed in isolated pockets of Vidarbha like in Nagpur and Amravati, these did no wonders in curtailing the maximums. In fact, few parts of Vidarbha and isolated pockets of Marathwada still reeled under heatwave like conditions.
On the other hand, the temperatures in most parts of Madhya Maharashtra remained near the 40-degree mark with the Konkan division witnessing the mercury levels settling in mid-30’s.

As of now, light rain and thundershower and thunderstorm activities are expected to continue over parts of Vidarbha, Marathwada, South Konkan and South Madhya Maharashtra region in the next 24-48 hours.
Thus, stations like Akola, Nagpur, Chandrapur, Washim, Nanded, Parbhani, Pune, Solapur, Kolhapur, Satara, Sangli, Vengurla, and Ratnagiri may witness these pre-Monsoon spells.
These rains would be in view of a trough which is extending from Chhattisgarh to coastal Karnataka across Marathwada.
On the contrary, the northern parts of Madhya Maharashtra and North Konkan including the capital city Mumbai would continue to remain dry.
At this stage, let us see the impact of this weather on the agriculture belt of Maharashtra:
In view of the heatwave like conditions, farmers are advised to apply irrigation to summer crops, orchards, and vegetables. Farmers should also continue harvesting of summer crops and irrigate banana plantation, pomegranate and sapota during early morning or during evening hours.
As light rain and thundershower and thunderstorm activities are expected to continue over parts of Vidarbha, farmers are suggested to provide mechanical support to orchards (Banana, Papaya), staking in vegetables. Farmers should also keep the harvested produce in safer place
