Since last few days, light rains have been occurring over several parts of Punjab and Haryana, providing much needed relief to the people from warm and humid weather conditions. Due to good pre-Monsoon showers over Punjab and Haryana, these states are rain surplus. As on July 24, Haryana is rain surplus by 6% while Punjab is rain surplus by 1% but heavy rains over these states have remained in hiding since a quite long time, now.

In a span of last 24 hours from 8:30 am on Monday, Patiala recorded 18.2 mm of rainfall, Hissar 5.2 mm, Kapurthala 3 mm, Ambala 2.1 mm and Ludhiana 1.8 mm.

These weather conditions are attributed to the axis of Monsoon trough which is seen running right from Northwest Rajasthan up to Bay of Bengal across Madhya Pradesh and Uttar Pradesh. Due to this, Punjab and Haryana have been receiving scattered light rainfall activities.

Furthermore, this trough is likely to move towards North Haryana. With this, rains and thundershowers over the state will increase significantly. So, by July 28-29. Punjab and Haryana will start receiving good Monsoon showers. These showers will restore the soil moisture and will then eventually benefit the farmers. Due to these good Monsoon rains in offing sowing of Kharif crops can also be done on time.
