Light rains may visit Delhi NCR on Thursday, no relief from rise in pollution

Delhi NCR has been battling dry and warm weather for the last many days. Although many successive Western Disturbances and induced cyclonic circulations have been affecting Northwest India, but rains have remained far and few.

The only impact we saw was the change in the wind pattern, drop in minimum temperatures and increase in humidity levels, which led to increase in pollutions levels across the national capital. The air quality which was earlier fair has now come in ‘poor’ category.
Now, the weather conditions are becoming conducive for some rains over the city and adjoining areas of Gurugram, Faridabad, and Noida.
According to Skymet, a fresh Western Disturbance is marked over Jammu and Kashmir and its induced cyclonic circulation is over Rajasthan and adjoining areas. As a result, humid winds are blowing over the region and minimum temperatures have registered a marginal rise on account of partly cloudy sky.

The cyclonic circulation would gradually move eastwards towards Delhi. With this, sky will be cloudy for the next 24 to 48 hours. This may give isolated light and thundery activity may also around October 18 or 19.
But as there is not enough moisture present in moisture to trigger moderate to heavy rains, therefore afternoons would continue to be warm. However, nights and morning would be fairly comfortable.
In fact, these rains would also not be successful in dissipating the pollution, although it would be on rise due to other prevailing factors like crop burning in the nearby states of Punjab and Haryana.
