Light rains may drench parts of Punjab, Haryana on Sunday

Northern parts of Punjab and Haryana are all set to witness fresh spell of rain and thundershowers on Sunday. However, intensity of rain will not be much and will be confined to light showers only.

According to Skymet Weather, these rains can be attributed to the combination of the weather systems affecting Northwest India. A fresh Western Disturbance has been affecting Western Himalayas and is presently marked over Jammu and Kashmir and adjoining North Pakistan.

The system has also induced a cyclonic circulation over Central Pakistan and adjoining Punjab. Both the systems will gradually move towards east direction, covering more parts of the Indian mainland.

With this, we can expect some short spells of rain and thundershowers towards the evening hours of Sunday. Places such as Pathankot, Amritsar, Hoshiarpur, Jalandhar, Chandigarh, Ambala, Mohali, and Panchkula are most likely to record rains during this time period.

In wake of these approaching systems, sky has already become cloudy to partly cloudy. This has further led to increase in moisture levels in the atmosphere, which in turn has increased minimum temperatures over the northwestern plains including Haryana, Punjab, Delhi-NCR, Rajasthan and West Uttar Pradesh. The mercury will continue to rise gradually during the next 24 to 48 hours.
