This is normally a dry season for the northeastern states and rains are occasional during this time. This is the reason, the northeastern states of the country have remained dry from a long time. Most parts of the region have been winding under a more than 80% rainfall deficiency.
However, some rainy spells did occur on Saturday and few parts of the Northeastern states of the country witnessed light showers. Since then, the weather went dry once again.
As reiterated by Skymet Weather, now, an upper air Cyclonic Circulation persists over Assam and Meghalaya. In the wake of this weather system, light rains are expected to show up in parts of the northeastern states.
Particularly, Sub-Himalayan West Bengal, Sikkim, Northern parts of Assam and Arunachal Pradesh are likely to witness these light showers during the late evening of February 2 and consecutively on February 3 as well.
Moreover, isolated snow is also likely over the higher reaches of Sikkim and Arunachal Pradesh. Furthermore, easterlies prevailing over Arunachal Pradesh and Assam will also lead to rise in moisture levels. Thereafter, the weather is expected to become dry again.
Though the states of Northeast India are predicted to observe light showers, these rains are still not expected to bring many changes in the prevailing rainfall deficiency over the ‘seven sisters’ states’.
