Light rains likely in Chandigarh, Patiala

The weather of Punjab and Haryana had remained dry from the last 4-5 days. It was on August 9 that a few parts of Punjab and Haryana recorded some light spells. Thereafter, the weather of both these states went on to become dry.

However, isolated rains occurred in isolated parts of Punjab though comparatively, rain in parts of Haryana was on a lesser side. Within the span of the last 24 hours from 08:30 am on Sunday, Ambala recorded 45.7 mm of rains, Patiala 30 mm, Amritsar 19.6 mm and Pathankot witnessed 10 mm of rains.

Skymet Weather reiterates that the axis of Monsoon trough which was running close to the foothills of the Himalayas which is north of Delhi. Moreover, southwesterly and westerly winds are also blowing over the regions. This is the region, Punjab and Haryana are witnessing dry weather conditions.

Moreover, as of now also, not many changes are anticipated in these two states as the axis of Monsoon trough continues to run along the foothills of Himalayas. Hence, dry weather will prevail in parts of Haryana and Punjab. But the northern districts of Punjab adjacent to the hills such as Chandigarh, Patiala, and Nawanshahr may receive one or two spells of rains.

However, chances of any significant rain activities over these states are ruled until August 18 or 19. Thereafter by August 19, the axis of Monsoon trough is expected to shift towards south leading to few spells. Light rains can be anticipated though chances of heavy falls are still ruled out. These rains will also be responsible for bringing down the maximums that are at present seen close to 35°C in parts of Punjab while are hovering between 36-37 degrees in parts of Haryana.
