Rajasthan Rains

Southwest Monsoon touched parts of Southeast Rajasthan on June 27, thereby making an early arrival. Moreover, it covered the entire state in just two days and by June 29, Monsoon covered the entire country, including the leftover parts of the ‘Desert State’ which was over 15 days in advance.

However, despite making an early onset, the rainy occasions for the state has remained on the lower side. Though June did saw a couple of rainy spells, the month of July has remained almost dry so far for the state.

It is due to the rain in June that the state’s rainfall performance has remained so far satisfactory. Otherwise, July has failed to give any inputs, so far.

The cumulative rainfall for West Rajasthan spanning from June 1 to July 5 was surplus by 37%. Meanwhile, during the same time, rains were excess over East Rajasthan by 25%.

The largest state of the country still anticipate some good Monsoon showers that Skymet Weather does not expect until the next week.

As of now, westerly winds are blowing over most parts of Northwest India including Rajasthan. Therefore, we do not expect good Monsoon activities over the state at least for the next 3-4 days. However, parts of North and Southeast Rajasthan, adjacent to Madhya Pradesh that is cities likeKota, Chittorgarh,Bundi, and Jhalawar may witness some isolated light rains.

The northern parts of the state such as Hanumangarh, Sri Ganganagar,Alwar, andSikarmay also witness isolated thunderstorm or light rain activities. Though, these activities would more or less be the Pre-Monsoon activities and would be for short duration and in patches.

Rains are expected to increase significantly over East Rajasthan around July 12 or 13. During that time, some moderate with isolated heavy showers can be expected overJaipur,Bharatpur, and Sawai Madhopur. Parts of West Rajasthan may also receive a few spells but the intensity would be much lesser.
