Light rains in Punjab and Haryana, to pick pace by July 11

Due to good pre-Monsoon showers over Punjab and Haryana, these states are rain surplus. Haryana is surplus by whopping 135% while, Punjab is surplus by 94%.

Northern Plains particularly Punjab and Haryana have not received enough rains. But till now this Monsoon is going in a positive direction for Punjab and Haryana in terms of rain. Monsoon has yet not reached Punjab and has covered only half of Haryana, still these states are rains surplus.

As per Skymet Weather, the reason for these rains can be attributed to the successive Western Disturbance and on and off the formation of induced cyclonic circulation over Punjab and Haryana.

In the last 24 hours from 8.30 am Ludhiana witnessed light rain of 18.2 mm, Karnal received 5.6 mm of rain while other cities like Ambala, Amritsar, and Patiala witnessed light rains.

At present rains have reduced and we expect scattered light rains for the next three to four days over these states. The intensity of rains is likely to increase around July 11. By then rains will remain subdued. Due to subdued rains, the rain surplus may also reduce up to some extent.

At present, the weather conditions across the states are uncomfortable due to high humidity levels. Temperatures are in higher 30’s and relief from the sultry weather is not expected for the next few days.
