In the past few days, most parts of Maharashtra along with Mumbai had been witnessing moderate to heavy rains with isolated heavy showers.

However, during the last 24 hours, Southwest Monsoon remained normal over Konkan and Goa region, Vidarbha and North Madhya Maharashtra. Rest of the state witnessed subdued rains.

In a span of 24 hours from 08:30 am on Monday, Harnai witnessed 16 mm of rainfall, followed by Vengurla 9 mm, Buldana 5 mm, Mahabaleshwar 4 mm, Chandrapur 3 mm and Bhira 2 mm. There were many other districts that recorded light rain and few that received traces of rainfall.

The prevailing weather conditions can be attributed to the axis of Monsoon trough that was running from Gujarat to Bay of Bengal across North Maharashtra.

However, now the trough has shifted toward northern plains and is passing from North Rajasthan, Haryana, Northeast Madhya Pradesh, Jharkhand and West Bengal.

Hence, weathermen expect rains to now reduce over most parts of Maharashtra for the next two days, but scattered light to moderate rains will continue over parts of Vidarbha and Konkan and Goa.

August 25 onward, the off shore trough will once again become active, resulting in moderate to heavy showers over Konkan and Goa including Mumbai. Rains will also increase over Vidarbha and Marathwada, whereas intensity of rains will be not as much over Madhya Maharashtra in comparison to other aforementioned areas. So, after a gap of 24 to 48 hours, good rains will reappear over the state.

For now, Pune, Nashik and Mumbai will continue to receive light rains during the next 24 hours, while Nagpur, Chandrapur , Bhira and Mahabaleshwar may record moderate showers.
