The Southwest Monsoon has already withdrawn from Mumbai. Courtesy, cyclonic circulation in the Arabian Sea, light rains are still continuing. The city has recorded just about 5mm of rainfall during this week, after the retreat of the Monsoon. This pattern will continue for the next about five days, till the 22nd of October and dries up, thereafter.
The wind pattern is predominantly easterly, all along the Konkan Coast. With this pattern, the Western Ghats restrict the flow in the lower levels and do not allow any significant moisture to reach over the Konkan region. At best, with the rise in temperature, plumes of clouds could form during the day. Otherwise, mostly the medium clouds will be persisting and the threat of rain is minimal.
The weather system, off Konkan and Goa, in the Arabian Sea will gradually shift westward. Also, the anticyclone over the plains of North India will be established firmly. Dry and slightly warm northeasterly winds will sweep parts of East Rajasthan, Madhya Pradesh and Maharashtra. The changeover will take about 5 days from now. Thereafter. the city will become a little warm and sultry, more so, during forenoon and afternoon hours.
Practically, the rainy season is over for the financial capital of the country. It is only the remnant effect, lasting till the start of next week. Typical clear skies, with rising temperatures and increasing humidity will become a routine feature for the rest of the days in October. Better weather and pleasant conditions are expected to gradually build up in November. However, the peak of good weather for Mumbai remains in December and January.
