Light rains in Mumbai, Nagpur, Pune, Nashik to continue

After witnessing incessant rains, a couple of days back, the rain intensity over the state of Maharashtra has now been witnessing a declining trend. However, as compared with the last day’s rainfall, the rains over the state have seen a marginal improvement in terms of intensity.

In the last 24 hours, rains mainly occurred over South Konkan and parts of Madhya Maharashtra. Isolated pockets of Vidarbha also recorded some light spells. However, the Marathwada region remained dry.

Within the span of 24 hours, from 08:30 am on Tuesday, Mahabaleshwar recorded 18 mm of rains, Aurangabad 9 mm, Mumbai’s Colaba Observatory recorded 2 mm of rains, Kolhapur 2 mm, Sangli 1 mm, Vengurla 0.8 mm, Pune 0.2 mm, Nashik 1 mm and Ratnagiri recorded 0.5 mm of rains.

As of now, we expect light to moderate rains to continue in parts of Konkan with the intensity being moreover South Konkan. Some parts of Madhya Maharashtra would also receive scattered light rains. Meanwhile, Marathwada would remain dry.

At this stage, let us see the impact of this weather on the agriculture belt of Maharashtra:

Farmers are advised to apply second NPK dose to the rice crop. The incidence of the blue beetle is also expected and hence it is advisable to use effective pesticide in Vegetable and Fruit crop nursery.

In Marathwada, farmers are advised to control the attack of shoot and fruit borer in okra and remove infected plant part and spray effective pesticide. Intercultural operations should be done for weed control. Madhya Maharashtra s farmers also advised to complete all inter-culture operations like weeding, spraying, top dressing also take care for the supply of irrigation to Kharif crops.
