Light rains in Kolkata to continue

Kolkata rains have played immensely well during Southwest Monsoon as the city has been witnessing on and off rains that have kept the weather of the city pleasant and comfortable. Though the intensity of rains has reduced considerably in the last 48 hours but on and off showers has kept n whipping the city of joy.

The last 24 hours also, Kolkata manage to record rains but as compared with the other districts of the state, rains over Kolkata were very light. Within the span of 24 hours from 08:30 am on Tuesday, Kolkata recorded 4 mm of rains.

As per Skymet Weather, these rains can be attributed to the well-marked low-pressure area which was over West Bengal and adjoining Jharkhand from last many days. It was due to this weather system that has given heavy to extremely heavy rains over the districts of West Bengal including Kolkata.

Now, this well-marked low-pressure area has shifted over Jharkhand and due to the movement of this weather system, rains are now likely to reduce over West Bengal, particularly over Gangetic West Bengal including Kolkata. Though Kolkata will keep on receiving scattered light rains, the districts adjacent to Jharkhand may continue with few moderate spells for next 24 hours. Thereafter, the intensity of rains over Kolkata may reduce.

Moreover, the mercury level which was below normal in parts of the state a few days back will come back to be normal and humid and warm weather will take over.

So far in the month of July, the city of Kolkata has recorded a total of 578.8 mm of rainfall against its monthly mean of 396 mm. It is quite evident from the figures that the city has surpassed its monthly mean with almost double the difference.
