Tamil Nadu has once again become dry ever after some good rains lashed the state during the span of Cyclone Ockhi. Rains have now taken a backseat and the reason for the absence of rains over this South Indian state is the absence of any significant weather system over the region.
However, light spells with isolated moderate rains were observed over the districts of South Tamil Nadu in the past day. In the span of 24 hours from 08:30 am as on Friday, Parangipettai managed to record good rains to the tune of 47 mm, while, stations such as Karaikal, Adirampattinam, Tuticorin, and Kanyakumari witnessed some traces of rainfall.

As per the weathermen at Skymet Weather, somewhat similar weather condition is anticipated to prevail in parts of Tamil Nadu. For the next 24-48 hours, a short spell of rain and thundershowers are expected to continue in parts of South Tamil Nadu in regions such as Pamban, Tuticorin, Kanyakumari, and Parangipettai.
However, these rains are expected to escape the capital city, Chennai, but it will continue to witness partly cloudy sky and comfortable days. Though being a coastal station, possibilities of light spells cannot be denied that may occur due to localized cloud formation. The next spell of rains for Chennai is anticipated around December 19 and 20 when the state capital may witness some light rain and thundershowers. Along with Chennai, stations such as Pondicherry and Cuddalore may also get to see some light spells.
Until then, Chennaiites will have to continue to witness dry but comfortable weather conditions.
