Light rains for Mumbai, Pune, Nashik; Sangli, Satara brace for good showers

September is almost on the verge of ending and rains over Maharashtra have shown varied shades. In contrast with the rains in the state during the month of August, the month of September proved to be rainier.

In the last 24 hours also rains showed up in parts of the state, however, in contrast with parts of Madhya Maharashtra, and South Konkan & Goa; Vidarbha, and South Madhya Maharashtra rejoiced moderate to heavy rains. On the other hand, North Madhya Maharashtra, Marathwada, and South Konkan & Goa remained mainly dry.

Though the situation is pretty different presently as due to convective cloud formation, the capital city Mumbai has been receiving few moderate spells. Though these rains are of a short duration and confined to isolated locations. These rains will continue for another one to two hours thereafter, the weather of Mumbai will once again become dry.

Within the span of the last 24 hours from 08:30 am as on Thursday, Sangli recorded a whopping 55 mm of rains, Kolhapur 35 mm, Vengurla 19 mm, Bhira 8 mm, Satara 7 mm, and Nashik witnessed 2 mm of light spells. However, the capital city Mumbai witnessed only 1 mm of rains.

As per Skymet Weather, now also, light to moderate with one or two heavy spells are expected to continue over South Konkan and South Madhya Maharashtra for at least another 24 hours. Thus, districts such as Sangli, Satara, Kolhapur, Sindhudurg, Ratnagiri, Mahabaleshwar, and Bhira may get to witness good rains.

While, scattered light to moderate rains are expected over Vidarbha region in stations such as Gondia, Chandrapur, Brahmapuri. Mainly light spells are likely to show up in North Madhya Maharashtra in districts such as Nagpur, Pune, Nashik, and Mumbai. Weather of Marathwada will remain dry. This weather situation will prevail for the next 24 hours.

Thereafter Vidarbha will continue to get scattered rains but the weather will become dry over North Konkan & Goa and North Madhya Maharashtra. In a nutshell, the southern parts of the state are likely to continue to witness rains for the next 2-3 days.

The reason for these rains and the upcoming rains is the cyclonic circulation which is over the northern parts of Telangana. Moreover, a trough is also extending up to South Konkan across Marathwada and South Madhya Maharashtra.
