After observing ‘moderate’ AQI in the last two days, Delhi Pollution is once again ready to choke Delhiites.
Until now, moderate winds from the northwest direction were instrumental in pushing away the air pollutants and maintaining the air quality in the city. However, in the last 24 hours, the winds have become light and have changed direction to easterlies, which are comparatively humid in nature.
Whenever there is a combination of light winds and high humidity, pollution levels soar. A similar scenario has been prevailing in the national capital since morning today. Pollution has increased marginally over the region. AQI (PM 2.5) has once again entered ‘poor to very poor’ category in a large part of Delhi and NCR.

Although there are chances of patchy rain in Delhi and its adjoining areas today and tomorrow, these rains would not be of any help in improving the air quality. In fact, these showers will only make the situation worse by not being able to disperse the pollutants due to their light nature. As a result, there is a high possibility that AQI (PM 2.5) may enter the ‘severe’ category by November 27 or 28.
Relief is expected only after November 28, when the weather conditions would clear up and the flow of moderate northerly/northwesterly cold winds would resume. By this time, the minimum temperatures might also touch lower degrees, leading to the formation of ‘moderate to dense’ fog during early morning hours.
