As predicted by Skymet Weather Services, short lived rains did happen in Maharashtra but failed to bring in any comfort of any sorts. These pre-monsoon showers were much needed in the drought hit region of Maharashtra. More than 160 people have died due to the ongoing heatwave and these short-lived rains did no less than a tease.

These rains did bring the temperature marginally down but only in terms of numbers. The weather outside did feel like what it was. The temperatures are expected to bounce back soon enough.

First Published: Light rain to bring  temporary relief in Maharashtra
Pre-Monsoon rain and thundershowers are likely to bring much-needed relief from scorching heat in Maharashtra, especially parts of Madhya Maharashtra and Marathwada. However, it will bring temporary respite only.

Most parts of Maharashtra have been reeling under intense heatwave conditions for the last few days. On Monday, Sholapur has recorded day maximum at 42.7°C, followed by Nagpur 42.9°C and Sangli 42°C. However, relief is in sight for places such as Sholapur, Sangli, Mahabaleshwar, Osmanabad, and Nagpur that are likely to get isolated light rain or thunderstorms in span of next 24 to 48 hours.

Pre-Monsoon activity generally occurs at evening. By then, mercury has already peaked and thus these showers does not have much impact on the day temperatures. But they manage to bring some temporary relief in terms of pleasant evening. Moreover, these rainy spells are very short in nature. Thus, heat starts building up soon with the sunrise. This rain activity can be attributed to the north-south trough running from Madhya Maharashtra up to Comorin area across Marathwada and Karnataka.

As per the meteorologists, combination of high day temperatures and humid winds from the trough will lead to the development of thunderclouds that will give rain and thundershowers.
