February 19, 2016 12:11 PM | Skymet Weather Team

Scattered light to moderate rain and thundershowers are going on in Rajasthan for the last 2 to 3 days. Isolated places also received hail storm for a short duration.

Now, a Western Disturbance is lying over Jammu and Kashmir and another can be seen over East Iran and adjoining Afghanistan.

The induced cyclonic circulation is seen over Central Pakistan and adjoining West Rajasthan. Secondly, a trough is running from Southeast Arabian Sea up to this induced cyclonic circulation.

Earlier also, Skymet had said that Rajasthan will experience a pleasing rainy weekend.

Moreover, the anti-cyclone over Odisha is leading to moisture incursion from the Bay of Bengal to South and West Rajasthan. Therefore, we can that several factors are contributing to fairly widespread light to moderate rain over West and Central Rajasthan. This spell of rain will continue for another 24 hours. Thereafter, this rain belt will shift towards Northeast Rajasthan and adjoining North Madhya Pradesh.

During this time of the year, rainfall activities are normally very less. If at all, rain occurs only due to an active Western Disturbance. This system should travel in the lower latitudes and should also induce a good enough cyclonic circulation over Rajasthan. At present, all the criteria are being met.

During last 24 hours, Sri Ganganagar received 7 mm of rain, Jaisalmer 4 mm, Jodhpur 2 mm, and Churu 0.3 mm of rainfall.

Temperatures will remain below normal levels for another two days, leading to pleasant weather conditions over the weekend. Before this spell of rain, temperatures were seen rising to higher twenties but has now come down significantly.
